She is a total girly girl and I kind of love it. By the way, this little girl is a dedicated girly girl. For almost a year straight, she refused to wear anything but dresses and skirts. “Princesses wear dresses”, she declared. And it totally worked out, because we learned that monsters are afraid of princesses, sparkles, and butterflies. Did you know that? Well, since we did, we designed her girly girl room to be monster proof AND pinktabulous.

While she was adamant about pink walls, we decided to add white furniture with grey and gold accents to compliment her pinkilicious little girl’s room. Let’s start with the bed. This bed was definitely a splurge item from Pottery Barn Kids, and I’m happy we made the investment. The bed has survived three moves, and it’s super easy to reassemble.
The main reason we bought this bed is because it has two height options. We went straight from a crib to this bed, and after hours of research, I found no other twin sized bed to be closer to the floor. On the lower height, the bed sits 7.25 inches above the floor. On the higher height, the bed will fit a trundle underneath. Perfect for princess sleepovers! It also comes in a gorgeous neutral grey, black and a “brushed fog” color (aka greige).
Her side table was another Target find (sold out now – similar though shorter basket here). We purchased it in a brushed steel color and painted it purple. The table top is a dark wood color. We are storing the top at the moment – when the top is on, our toddler thinks he should climb it. BUT one feature I really love about this side table is that you can still pull stuffed animals out of the wire when the top is on.
We toned down the pink a bit with a large piece of art centered on one of her walls. The arrows were pre-bought from Target, and the wood pallet was purchased from Michaels and stained grey. The house shelves were hand built by us, and our little sweetie picked out the paint colors. They are the perfect size for calico critters and my little poines. They also house the all important ice cream night light. The cute little rainbow cubby below the arrow art print is Calico Critter storage. Or, in my toddler’s mind, they make great oversized stacking blocks.
One thing still missing from this view of the room is a fun cloud shelf I found at Target. Seriously, I’m sure you are thinking: what is with this lady and Target? Yes I admit: Target is my life. I swear, I do shop around but Target just ends up winning! For example – I found a similar shelf at Land of Nod. The Land of Nod shelf is more expensive, and I would be tempted to stain the wood color to match the arrow art work. The Target shelf is cheaper and all-white, so I was bummed when it sold out in the store. I’m assuming they will restock the shelf, but I opted to order it online. And why not? Target has a free shipping on home purchases deal running right now!
In addition to pink paint, my preschooler’s other must-have for her room was a tent. Little miss picked out her pink pom pom canopy tent and grey rug on one of our weekly Target runs. How nice is it to knock off grocery shopping and bedroom decor in one trip? The rug is sold out now in grey (it is available in pink and white), but you can find similar grey styles here and here.
The second rug linked above is from World Market. It is the REAL deal and the price reflects that. But it is also GORGEOUS. The World Market rug was the first one I found and I was totally bummed out about the price. A couple days later, I spotted our very similar rug at Target. Not only was the price awesome, but I love that it is circular. The shape makes it easy to tuck the canopy under the rug. That way, the tent is easier to get in and out of. Oh how I love Target.
Here’s a view of the other side of the room. The book ledges are my favorite part of this room. They were a great solution to the awkward space between the dresser and the entrance to her room. The space is too tight for traditional bookshelves, so the ledges work perfectly. We found our ledges on Amazon in the exact right size for our wall. Ikea also sells really reasonably priced book ledges, so be sure to check that option out. Unfortunately, the Ikea size options were both too short and too long for our space. Depending on your space, don’t forget that you could butt two shelves up next to each other to create the appearance of a longer shelf. With our wonky size needs, we were thankful to find the exact size we needed on Amazon. Amazon is my life line when Target doesn’t come through for me (which is, admittedly, kind of rare. Target 4 Life.)
The book ledges were fairly easy to install. Our only issue was to make sure we didn’t screw into the electrical wiring running to the outlet below the shelves.
I’m looking forward to watching these ledges change use over the years. Right now, they house artwork and favorite books. But when she’s a teenager, I’m picturing gobs of photos of friends and celebs. What teen doesn’t love a shrine of the latest teen boy star? For me, it was a combo of BSB and NSync because: why choose one??

If you are thinking about having a rainbow birthday party for your kiddo, you’ve come to the right place. My daughter requested a rainbow birthday party with a very specific rainbow birthday party favor, and I was SO excited to execute her idea. A rainbow party isn’t complete without “on theme” rainbow party favors, of course. And my daughter had the idea to DIY the
The two things I love about the holiday season are a home filled with loved ones and a home filled with the cozy scents of the season. But I don’t always want to bake a pie from scratch to get that smell. And although I do love finding and burning the best cozy scented candles, there are MANY other ways to make your home smell
